Values Impacting on Care

Beliefs and values about health, illness and healing impact on the perspectives of the patient, family and nurse in the patient’s health experience. For Arab Muslim patients, spiritual and cultural values shape the patients’ health beliefs model.

An understanding of the spiritual, cultural and professional values (that are related to health, illness and healing) guide the assessment of patient needs and caring actions.

The patient and family remain the focus of care, with the aim to restore the patient’s health: physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being.
